About The Kanza

The Kanza Board of Directors has made some changes in the plans for 2009. Due to the delay in finalizing our status as a non-profit organization we have had to make some changes to accomodate missing funding deadlines we anticipated being able to apply for this year. So to be able to continue the Kanza Film Festival and set up to accomplish our long term goals - for 2009 only - we will not have the Festival Day - WE WILL STILL HAVE THE 2009 CONTEST with prizes for winners in the categories as announced - but we will extend the entry deadlines and concentrate our efforts on putting out the planned "BEST OF THE KANZA" DVD.

What does this mean to you, the aspiring filmmaker? It means you still have the chance to compete against other filmmakers from across the country like yourself, and you will have the chance to have audiences see your film as we will work toward venues to get your films shown across the region and will we produce the "Best of the Kanza" DVD - which means in addition to prizes for best films of 2009 - if your film is chosen for inclusion - you will have another opportunity for a broad audience to see the quality of your work. Tom Pike, the director of the Kanza will be contacting the top filmmakers from the first three years of the Kanza and beginning the marketing YOUR GREAT FILMS. See the Kanza Blog for more details as they are announced.

We will be back in 2010 with an even bigger and better film festival. So please stay tuned and as we get our early growing pains solved (read finally get our official IRS 501c3 status), we can get back on track and move ahead to achieve our vision of a great film festival for aspiring filmmakers - and give you a great venue to compete, learn and share your love and talent for filmmaking.

The 2009 Kanza Film Festival is now accepting entries with deadline for movies entries - June 30, 2009.

Entry Deadline extended for 2009 June 30th

_____________

Thank you to all who helped make the 2nd Annual Kanza Film Festival a success. We had some GREAT films. If you missed it, well, make your plans to enter your film in the 3rd Annual Kanza Film Contest. We have some changes to the categories and a new category "Journey Stories" for the next two years that ties in with a Smithsonian Institution traveling exhibit coming to Kansas in 2009 and 2010. Read the rules and entry forms for full details.

In the past winning films for The Kanza have come from Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Indiana and California and entries from as far afield as Canada. For those who could not make it to the actual Festival the past official results are posted below and clips from the winning entries are posted on The Films page.

The Kanza Film Festival began in 2007 with the goal to bring a quality venue for aspiring filmmakers to get their films shown, find new outlets for the best films and help inspire and promote movie-making as an outlet, an educational pursuit, and a career path for those so inclined. We are in the process of becoming a 501(c)(3) organization to better serve the film community of the Midwest and beyond. Delays in obtaining our official non-profit status have caused us to put off certain parts of our plans for the future of the Kanza. Until the IRS completes the reveiw and grants us their stamp of approval - we will put the Movie Camp and other non-film-festival projects on the back burner. But that's even better for the film festival - it and the movie show will be our sole focus for the time being.
